St. Michael the Archangel Custom Icon

I was drawn to St. Michael and his prayer of protection:

"St. Michael, the Archangel defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil..."

St. Michael courageously stood for what he believed and through God's power was able to defeat Satan and throw him from heaven.

St. Michael's conviction, faith, loyalty and courage are all qualities to aspire to in our lives as we strive to protect our loved ones.

Custom Icon Details:

Choose a Board:

Choose one of 3 traditional icon boards (shown in the images) to express your individuality, or go with a simple 5" x 7" claybord, framed.

• 7" x 9" Round top
  
• 6" x 8" Rectangular
• 8" x 10" Rectangular with Kovcheg*
• 5" x 7" Claybord with frame included.

The icon boards are made with linden wood with oak braces. The white gesso on the  surface contains rabbit skin glue, chalk and marble dust, in order to accept and absorb the egg tempera paint used to create the icons. A claybord is a thinner board which cannot absorb as much paint as the traditional boards, but can still create a beautiful icon.

Choose a Halo treatment:

 Choose one of 3 options to express your individual style and creativity.

• Painted halo (example shown in the images)

• Gilded Halo Embellished (+$210)
  

Gilding involves adding gold leaf to the halo area. In an icon, gilding represents the radiating heavenly light.

I use 24kt gold leaf in 3 layers. Preparation and application can add about a week to the process. Choose the embellished gilded halo if you prefer a little something extra. 

Additional Notes:

• This icon will take about 4-6 months to create once ordered. This is to allow adequate time for the paint to dry and cure before sealing it with a protective coat.
